Minutes of the Committee Meeting of Stoke Poges Singers

Thursday, 21^st October 2010

1.  Present: Cheryl Cutting (Chair), David Horton (Secretary), Naomi Wordsworth (Treasurer), Marlene Lewis, Sue Tattersall, Dawn Stainer, Joan Griffiths, Karen Stevens, Sue Balfour, Joan Horton

Apologies for absence: Graham Roitt

 2.  Minutes of Previous Meeting: Minutes for the meeting of 16^th September were agreed.

 3.  Matters arising:

(a) Jazz evening, 2^nd October: Cheryl reported that the evening was enjoyable with good support from choir members. However there were few guests. The evening was brought to a rather abrupt halt, as the hall had to be vacated by 10:30pm, and many people as well as the band would have liked to continue beyond this. On reflection the hall should have been booked for a late finish. It was agreed that in future a check list for social occasions would be desirable. Grateful thanks were expressed to Marlene for arranging and paying for the band.

 (b) Job descriptions: Sue Tattersall presented her responsibilities for producing and printing concert programmes.

(c) Winter concert, 4^th December: The Performance Checklist was gone through and responsibilities allocated. (Interim copy attached).

(d) Publicity: An e-mail was sent to choir members asking for volunteers to join a sub-committee. So far there has been a negative response.

 4.  Treasurer’s Report: Naomi reported that the bank balance is healthy. The deposit account stands at £5,508.82 and the cash account at £947.61.

 5.  Conductors Report: Grahame sent a report by e-mail and suggested that the celebrations for 40 th anniversary (and his 10^th !), should be somewhere other than St Andrews hall to make it an event.

The band is organised for 4^th December. Grahame’s suggestion for concert dress for 4th December, black bottoms and coloured tops (not necessarily plain colour!). After the concert on the 4^th December he would like to commence work on next May’s concert, The Messiah.

 6.  SPS Website: Celica has taken over responsibility for the website. Naomi will take any comments about it.

 7. Future Events:

a)      Carol concerts: It was agreed to ask the proprietor of the Rose & Crown if the last rehearsal of this year on 16^th December could be held in the pub. David has now arranged this.

b)      End of term date: 16^th December 2010

c)      SPS 40^th Anniversary celebrations: To be discussed at the next committee meeting.

d)     Hall bookings 2011: To be discussed at the next committee meeting.

 8. AOB: It was proposed and agreed that a barn dance be held in March 2011.

 9. Date of next Meeting: Thursday, 11^th November, 7pm at the Rose and Crown pub.
